The research training program

The aim of the training program
The aim of the training within the CAFFEIN network is to provide young researchers (ESRs/ERs) with extra knowledge and multidisciplinary skills not available at the home institutions that make them extremely attractive for industrial and academic employers.

By intersectoral secondments they will gain experience in an industrial environment. Furthermore, we will teach the ESRs/ERs how to successfully start up new companies in the biomedical area, since we believe that this is often the best way to translate new ideas into innovative products and economic success.

Role of the private sector
A full industrial partner, the pharmaceutical company MedImmune, which belongs to Astra-Zeneca, will assure that the training of complementary skills for working in the pharmaceutical industry and for biomedical entrepreneurship will be of highest quality and practical relevance.

The industrial partner will provide research training for 2 ERs for 2 years. The ERs will take active part in the management of the research project, in the scientific collaboration, and in the organization of the Summer Schools in year 2 and 3, which are led by the industrial partners, thus improving their skills in interaction and organization. Together with network wide training activities in specialized biomedical techniques and complementary skills this will help them to become a team leader in the future.
